Understanding the Things That Causes Delay in Getting Married and How to Deal With Them

Fear of marrying the wrong person.

For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me. Job 3:25

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer...let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6

Understanding the Things That Causes Delay in Getting Married and How to Deal With Them

Doubt is a sickness. Worry is a disease. Anxiety is a grave. It buries people even while they are still alive. We all have times in our lives when we must choose between faith and fear. A young woman being pressurized by her parents to marry a particular person can decide to choose whether to give in or say no and walk away. When you are afraid of marrying the person, you are likely to be a victim of one.

Probably God saw the place of fear in the heart of Joshua and he said, "Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide the land as an inheritance...only be strong and very courageous...that you may prosper wherever you go. Joshua 1:6-7

You must also learn to face what you fear or it will control you until you withdraw into your shell. What you fear most must be faced most. You cannot conquer what you cannot confront. You have to stand up to it and overcome your anxieties. Your faith level must rise to believe that God has a plan for your life. Courage here does not eliminate his fear, but to strengthen him and cause his faith level to rise above what he feared.

Fear, as the saying goes is "False Evidence Appearing Real". You have to neglect all the false evidences around you. Your parents' broken marriage is not an evidence that you will have one.

You must start seeing yourself as someone who can handle life. If fear dominates you at the junction of marriage, how about when you finally get married. What is ahead of you is greater than what is behind you. The greatest of all is what is in you. You must change your mindset about marriage. Bishop T.D Jakes, one of the America's best preachers said, "Our mind is the battlefield where victory is won or lost". If you believe you cannot fall victim of wrong marriage, then the victory is won, you cannot fall victim.

Bob Gass the author of the word for today for West Africa said, Anxiety cannot immobilize you and steal your joy and victory when you know you can handle whatever happens. Bring God into the scene and he will help you where your hands are already weak. If you start a relationship and things does not work out well, separate visions and pursuit, disagreement, dishonesty and infidelity, why waiting? If you start it then end it. A broken courtship is much better than a broken marriage.

In conclusion, instead of retreating to a corner of silent and regret, arise and face what you fear and you will discover they are just false evidence appearing real.

Lack of planning and improper counsel.

Going into marriage involves planning, and where you have good plans and you are not properly counseled your plans will go awry. One of the reasons why planning is important is that, once you enter into it there is no going back. God said I hate divorce. If you are thinking that if it does not work out fine, you have an option to quit.

Thinking about divorce before entering into marriage is a sign that you are likely to experience it. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy may divorce and separate, while Mr. and Mrs. Lopez did the same. Yet, these are facts, but are not the true picture of your own marriage. Divorce is a grave, and each time you see it you will remember who is there. Don't let it enter into you. Before you venture into marriage now start planning now.

It is not wrong if you start planning how you will manage your own home now. Learn lessons from failed marriages and avoid the obstacles. When you see the red light of a car in your front, it tells you just one thing, "slow down" or "watch out". Watch out for loopholes, crack walls, and mistakes so that you will not fall at the same junction. Therefore, when you see failed marriages, wave it and look up to God for perfection in your imperfections. Many people who failed today did not really plan to fail. However, things went wrong along the way. Nevertheless, you can start planning, praying and preparing for your future now. God is always willing to help us when we show him our imperfections.

Before I met my wife, I have written all I wanted from marriage. Funny enough she has written her own too. We just amalgamated the plans and visions and settled for the systematic process. Today, the visions are happening. Nevertheless, it all started with a plan. Start now. Proper planning prevents poor performance. As the saying goes, "If you fail to plan you are planning to fail".

In addition, you have to learn how to shun wrong counsel. Do not let anybody gives you the mentality that marriage is a lifetime burden. It is a blessing from God. All my life I have always thanked God for giving me a wife. She has been to me a wife, mother and a companion. I don't have to think alone, work alone, live alone or plan all alone. God gave me a wife whose contributions to my life have brought me this far. Start your planning now.

Self-sexual pleasure.

One of the most common self-sexual pleasures among the youth is masturbation. At the youthful stage, different changes occur in the body. As a young girl, you can be sexually aroused or stimulated just after your menstrual period. Likewise, a young boy can wake up in the morning and feel sexually excited. These are the experiences and normal responses of a youthful body.

They are not masturbations.

The act of masturbation is deliberate. Though it is self-stimulating act that get you aroused sexually, yet, the strong guilt feelings is often there. It has been claimed to be self-destructive because it damages you emotionally. The more you are getting used to it you will desire a private life. Considering marriage as an option cannot occur to you. Therefore, each and everyday you will continue to load yourself up with junks that can sexually arouse you.

Although researchers have claimed that, it does not have any mental illness whether it is done frequently or occasionally. Believe me or not, masturbation produces many side effects, though they may not be physical. As you continue in the act, you may start seeing the opposite sex as just a mere sex objects. Even this normally happens to the homosexuals and lesbians. Any opportunity to be alone with the same sex is counted to be an opportunity to have sex.

Even when you are watching them on the TV, you will feel as if you should just be there to experience the act. If you are not careful, while alone, you will try to masturbate. In addition, the source of masturbation have been found to be the results of whet comes into your mind on daily basis. The TV programs, porn pictures, internet and cable TV stations that gives you nude scenes and movies.

When all these things are programmed in your mind, it hinders from getting married on time. On the internet today, there are lots of pornography sites where sexual movies, intimacy and porn pictures are displayed. They make their money as they fill people with junks. Your life is precious to God and your generation is waiting for your impact in their lives. The four lepers at the gate of Samaria said to themselves "why sits we here until we die? 2 Kings 7:3. You cannot afford to sit there until your entire life is wasted before you then discover the steps you have to take.

God can help you as He helped me years back, thereafter you will live a fulfilled life. If you are ready to settle for marriage, deal with this issue. Why waiting anymore?

Intimacy.

"There is away that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof is a way of destruction" Proverbs 14:12

Our next discussion is "intimacy". I don't really think we need any special definition for this. The question is "how does it hinder some singles in getting married on time. Most importantly, intimacies are in two ways.

1. A close personal relationship with somebody

2. A sexual friendship, especially with the opposite sex.

We have to discuss them briefly one by one.

If you are having a close personal relationship with somebody, it must be clearly s pelt. There's nothing wrong with being close to somebody. That songwriter says, "We all need somebody to lean on". We all need someone who could be there to encourage us whenever we are loosing heart. Nevertheless, this kind relationship must still be defined. I had problem in this area before I got married, because this young girl had been thinking that I am going to get married to her because of our closeness.

I did not take note of this until I begin to sense her moves, cares, and concerns. But in all honesty I was not thinking about her. I discovered that because we were close, people sometimes called her my fiancée. Jokingly, I will just say no.

These words have stocked to her brain and she started seeing herself as my fiancée. Up till today we are not on good terms because I did not marry her. She stayed far from me with all hatred. My point is this when you are intimately related with someone it must be clearly defined. If you don't, one of you will likely suffer the consequence. Moreover, the last hatred shall be greater than the first love.

Secondly, having a sexual activity with an opposite sex is the worst side of this matter. The truth is that the pleasure, love and care are often there in the beginning, but it hurts deep in the end. The bible says, "Bread of deceit is sweet in the mouth but in the end it tastes like gravel". Instead of you waiting until the end consider getting married. I know some women just can't be hooked to one man. Yet, whatever you need in three men God has put them in one right man for you. All you need is to discover him.

Moreover, marriage is more than sexual intercourse. It is companionship and friendship in nature. The joy of marriage does not lie in sexual intimacy between the couple. There are homes where sex is a daily bread, yet they had a break up. While your own focus is sex alone God is focusing on your fulfillment in social life, family life, love life, official life and other areas. Some have tried "trial marriage". Whereby two opposite sex lives together as husband and wife to see if they can eventually get married. A "trial marriage" does not eliminate the trials in marriage. When the challenges come, both of you may not be able to withstand them.

If you are into all these, you had better consider getting married. Hear the scripture now

"But I say to the unmarried...if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 1 Corinthians 7: 8-9

Unemployment or laziness.

A condition or situation in which one has no work to do in order to earn a living or an income, it can cause an hindrance in getting a partner to marry. Especially the man, knowing that the responsibility of the home lie upon his shoulder, he will be willing to have a job before going into marriage. No matter how you love a woman if you cannot meet her needs and show your love in a particular way, there will be problem. Giving is one of the proven ways to express our love. The bible says, For God so love the world that He gave his only begotten son. Even God gave to express his love. An expression of love is best demonstrated through giving. But, in a situation whereby you have no job, how can you do all these as expected.

Unemployment on its own brings low standard of living and unhappiness. You really wish you could contribute to the development of your family and even your own life. However, thank God there are jobs you can do in the comfort of your home. Today, there are so many works at home business you can start in the comfort of home without a dime. Make a search on the internet and start somewhere. It is better to start somewhere than to go nowhere.. In addition, laziness is killing. Some people cannot consider marriage or future partner because of laziness. You must outgrow this habits of 7.a.m on the bed and find something to do. Walking around from pillar to post cannot help your life and future. Even when what you are earning is little, it can a step to greater height. Great things often come in small packages. Do away with laziness and fulfill your God-given dreams. Think of what to do with your skill, talent, experience and level of education. If you cannot do all these, then you are probably not ready yet. No woman or man out there will be willing to marry a liability. Start now, your spouse is waiting.

Problems of your own family.

Another hindrance to getting a partner for marriage is the problem of your own family. One of the common problem lingering in many families today is divorce. When parents divorce, it may quickly cause a great problem for the children. In fact, so many of their children are already thinking that divorce may be the end of their own relationship too. If you fall into this category, don't let this be a stumbling blocks for you in getting married. No matter the problem of your family, don't let it be a limitation for your life. Dr John c. Maxwell said, "A problem is something you can do something about. If you can't do something about it, then it's not a problem. It's a predicament." Nobody here on earth is free from a problem. Challenges or difficulties. But the way we see them makes the different in our lives. You have to see that the problem in your own family has its solution. Find it and fix it. Be determined to make the different in your own family.

Mum or Dad's pet.

Marriage is for the matured mind not the coward. It is meant for those who can face the battles of life without looking back. If you really want to get a right partner and settle down for a better life, you must grow beyond being a pet. You are now of age and you must decide what you want. If you always need daddy's brain or mummy's thought in order to decide, then you cannot go far in any relationship. If every report calls for daddy's attention before it can be settled, you won't do well at all in your friendship. You need to come out of your shell and become a real man or woman. When things go wrong in the family, will you expect your dad or mum to take the lead or decide for you? Your wife depends on you almost every time to choose, act or decide for the family. No woman out there is busy looking for a man she will nurturing and tutoring like a baby. Because, such men cannot lead the home, their leadership responsibilities cannot be fully discharged.

Their wives cannot enjoy them; they rather get frustrated in that relationship or marriage. Most men have been used to the pampering of their parents since childhood, and until now they are still battling with how get out of their shell and become real men. Real men are matured men; they take leadership as their responsibilities. Enough of pampering, you have enjoy that enough so, become whom you are born to be. There is a place of parental guide, but parental choice may not bring the desired happiness in marriage or relationship or even make your dream come true.

Unsatisfied sexual desires or cravings.

Another thing that contributes to delay in finding a marriage partner is unsatisfied sexual desire or urge. Some people have strong sexual emotion so much that they find it uncontrollable. They always want to satisfy that craving each new day. They look for every opportunity to quench that thirst for sex. Therefore, such people find it very difficult to consider marriage. Marriage is a union of one man and his wife. You cannot get hooked to two or three people at the same time in marriage. No matter how you want to be sexually satisfied, marriage cannot give the power to do it outside its wall. Once you go beyond this boundary, you are then an adulterer. So, for this reason people in this category refuse to consider getting married. As far as they are concern, it is an hindrance to their sex life.

But the truth is this, intimacy is best enjoyed in marriage alone. There's joy happiness and fulfillment in doing it in marriage. There is a sense of belonging. Sexual intercourse is not just to have a release in other to satisfy your craving. I have discussed this at length in one of the article posted on this site "The joy of sexual friendship" and "Human sexuality". You can read more about how you can enjoy your sexual life in marriage. Nevertheless, sex plays its own part apart in marriage. Don't let it be your major focus. What sex will do is different from what communication, integrity, honesty, understanding will do. When God gives you a perfect mate, sex is not an issue. He understands how to satisfy us with our heart desires. You have to deliver yourself from that affliction of the devil. If you taste the joy of marriage, you will discover it is more than sex. Just try it. Let me therefore encourage you that you have to work on it. Pray that God will help you so that you can live a satisfied and fulfilled life. If you are ready, God is ready to help you. If you think, it is not possible to get out of such trap of the devil it is a lie. Start where you are. Start as you are reading this article. Let go of relationship that cannot add any value to your life. Let go of all the relationships and attachments to many sex partners who are just using you as a sex machine.

Fulfillment comes in relationship when you discover that you now have your own helpmate who delights in your well-being, progress and accomplishment in life. Work on this, because nothing is impossible. There is still someone out there who has been waiting willing to hold your arm and wishing that you will be his or her own forever. I mean happily ever after. May you find such happiness in Jesus' name.

Personal standard and high taste.

This article is not directed to someone who believes that his head calculation can give the right man or woman for marriage. Personal standard are limitations that a man ignorantly set, but hinders the direction of God for his life. If you have a personal standard that you cannot change come what may, then it will be very hard to get God's choice at the junction of marriage. One of the hindrances to getting a right partner for marriage is when you have high taste. I know there is nothing wrong in desiring a particular thing and be ready to pursue it. We all have different opinion and principles. Nobody wants to settle for less.

For example, if you are the type who had already said you cannot marry a man who does not have a car, house of his own or even works in a big company. Then it becomes a limitation for God. Because when a man in your local government area is the one fit for your life, you can't yield to the leading of God, you will rather ignore him.

Setting standard often lead to wrong choices and high taste can end as a taste of regret. The story is told of Mary (name has been changed) who insisted on marrying a Lawyer. Opportunities to choose from several men who have proposed to her have been ignored. Finally, a Lawyer came, who seems to be a dream come true. Not so long in their relationship Mary got pregnant. Therefore, they both decided to fix the wedding date. Nevertheless, on the evening of their wedding day, the groom disappeared. The bride became worried and perplexed until she fainted.

She was taken to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed her pregnancy. Nevertheless, the issue is the disappearing act of the groom. They planned to report the matter to the police the following morning. Just before that, the groom's best man decided to leak out the secret. The groom was in another hotel where he had planned to spend the honeymoon with a girlfriend. He concluded what honey is there in a pregnant woman. The worst side of the story is that Mary will be the third wife as the groom already has two wives and kids who were not living with him.

What is the lesson here, her standard could not allow her to take time to know the man she was going out with. Because she assumed this is her dream come true. Choices and standard are good, but how bad they can be when you are praying for Gods' leading in choosing a life partner. Whatever you are you are looking for in any man is already deposited in your right man wait for the manifestation.

Vacation Rentals - Home Away From Home

Vacation homes are perfect if you are looking for spending your holidays away from home. This way you never leave your home you just have a new one to live in. Renting a holiday home is so much easier these days; all of them are available online. Now you do not have to book expensive hotel suites and pay for the services that you do not want. All you need to do is rent one house and you can accommodate as many people as you would like.

This is the reason the concept of holiday homes became popular in the first place. You go to a place that you have never been to and live like a local, how cool is that. Vacation homes are the best places to live and spend some quality time with your loved ones. So don't have to follow any schedules nothing. You can sleep for as long as you want, isn't that the whole point of vacation in the first place? Many house owners are looking at the options and are willing to give up their homes to people for vacations.

All that you need to decide on is a budget; once you have that in place you would be able find the best homes for yourself. A lot of people feel that it would not be a good option to choose these homes, but I am telling you it is better than going to a hotel. If you go to a hotel you have to book separate rooms for people, when you have to eat you would have to gather together first and then eat. You don't have this hassle in a vacation rental. All you have to do is rent it. Once you do, you can take any room that you want, don't have to bother about ordering food from room service. You can live the way you want, just like you are living in your own place.

Vacation Rentals - Home Away From Home

These homes are really reasonable and everyone can afford it. If you are not going for an online package, then you can go to the locals on your own and ask for a discount. If you are convincing enough, you would be able to find yourself a great deal. When you are living at these homes you have the complete luxury to do anything that you want. You can even order yourself a pizza, which you can't when you are living at a hotel.

If you are going in peak seasons you will find these vacation homes booked already. However if you go right on time you would be able to find yourself a good deal. Whereas on the other hand if you are going in an off peak season the rental rates are really low. Various rental homes offer various other services, so before you check in, do verify what all services that you can opt for. The best way to find a rental home is online; all you need to do is write in your details and you will find yourself a perfect get away home.

Psychology Tips - How to Deal With Insomnia

The Problem

There are three types of insomnia: you can not fall asleep, wake up several times during the night, get up very early.

The causes

Psychology Tips - How to Deal With Insomnia

What can disturb sleep? Yes, anything: stress at work, disappointments, the noise outside, alcohol, drugs, long-range flight, shift work, hard bed, soft bed, disorder in the biological clock.

As a rule, there is always a fully explainable reason. Either you are worried about something or the environment does not allow you to fully relax, say psychologists.

Is it serious?

In most cases, insomnia lasts a few days or a couple of weeks, until you resolve the situation that cause sleep disturbance. You feel tired, irritable, in general, not in spirit. But once the sleep is restored, everything comes back to normal. However, lack of sleep, lasting more than three weeks, beyond the normal and can be an alarm indicating the need to consult a doctor or psychologist.

What should I do?

Urgent actions:

The afternoon sleep do no harm, it recharge your energy if your strength is running out, but too long naps can interfere with sleep at night. Better just refuse to nap or shorten its duration to half hour or even less.

Going to bed - a ritual. Many people have no concept of sleep hygiene, in other words, do not work out the right habits relating to bedtime. Invent your own evening ritual to prepare the body and brain for the period of rest. Go and take a walk, take a half hour before bedtime for reading or watching TV, do easy exercises or stretching parameter for relaxation.

Go to bed when wanted. If you do not want to sleep, do not force yourself to go to bed: you still can not sleep, and will just toss and turn from side to side. Go to bed only when you are really tired.

If you wake up, then get up! No matter how short was your night's rest, all the time, including a weekend, get up at the same time. If you have difficulty falling asleep, should adopt a more rigorous routine. Do not expect that your body will behave differently on weekdays and weekends.

Do not torture, have a snack. Hunger, sometimes is driving sleep away. Glass of milk and crackers or an apple before bed will help satisfy hunger and help to fall asleep. But the food should be very easy. You should not gorge on before going to bed.

Alternative solutions

Relax. To sleep, we should get rid of worries. Try using a simple technique of auto-suggestion, namely: slow breathing through your nose, focus on the relaxation of leg's muscles. Imagine that your feet and bone swell weight, immersed in the bed and lose sensitivity. A few minutes later in exactly the same focus on the shins, knees and so on. Perhaps, before it comes to head, you will already be fast asleep. What have to do is to disconnect from extraneous thoughts and worries and focus on relaxing the body.

Take a sedative herb. Before going to bed drink a tea of valerian - recommended by many doctors. There are many clinical and historical evidence of the effectiveness of valerian as a sedative. In some cases, valerian eliminates the anxiety and alarm. Pour a tablespoon of dry plant material with boiling water (0.5 liters), and leave for 3-4 minutes. Drink before bedtime as needed.

Go out into the light. Perhaps you are a night owl who does not sleep until two o'clock in the night, or a night owl, sleep in the early evening and wake up at 4 am. In any case, you are not like the rest of humanity. The reason may be your biological clock, which are either behind or in a hurry. Light indicates to your brain when to sleep or stay awake. With bright lighting, you may be able to adjust your clocks. Maybe all you need is more visit the open air in the daytime.

Bright light in the morning can shift the phase of sleep of "owls" so that they will be workable in the morning and ready for bed at night, not late at night. "Larks" can move bedtime due to bright light in the evening. It may be advisable to carry out daily on the street 45-60 minutes. Knowing that you will be in the sun for a long time, be sure to spread it with a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.

Prophylaxis

Before dinner, make some efforts. Vigorous exercise - brisk walking or cycling for 20-30 minutes - speed up the metabolism and raises body temperature by four to five hours. If you do physical activity for five or six hours before sleep, metabolic rate gradually decreases to the time your body will naturally ready to bed. However, if you make physical activity late at night, you're too excited to sleep. Physical exercise - a great remedy for insomnia, if deal with them in time. They will help secure the natural biorhythms of the body, in addition, due to physical stress you will feel tired.

For a more professional help go visit a psychologist or a doctor, or consult one of them online.

2010 After Christmas Sales at Best Buy - LCD Flat Screen TV Deals Determined By Shoppers This Year

As Thanksgiving is just around the corner and many Americans are already thinking about Christmas holiday shopping it is also the case that some thrifty holiday shoppers are thinking about 2010 after Christmas sales at Best Buy. It is very important to understand how after Christmas sales work before being able to find the lowest price deals at retailers throughout the country. When looking for an LCD flat screen TV it is likely going to be the case that shoppers determine just how many sales and deals are available starting December 26, 2010.

When major retailers like Best Buy decide to make purchases for big-ticket items such as HDTV's it tends to be the case that they order up a few more TVs than they would expect to sell. It is better to be safe than sorry so they will make certain that all the customers will have the TV they desire even if it means that they have to hold even more in inventory. It tends to be the case that some TVs do not sell as well as others and if there is then a heavy order shipment for this type of TV then it will have to be marked down greatly and sometimes even before Christmas.

If the TV does not sell very well there is a very good possibility that customers will see great after Christmas sales and deals related to this item. By simply going into a Best Buy or any other major retailer during the last few days of the Christmas holiday shopping season you can pretty much guess which type of TVs will be available during the after Christmas sales. If there are only a few TVs left from a specific brand then it is highly unlikely that that specific product will be marked down after the Christmas holiday shopping season has ended.

2010 After Christmas Sales at Best Buy - LCD Flat Screen TV Deals Determined By Shoppers This Year

Armed with this knowledge it is very important to go out and about during December 23rd, 24th and 25th to see what inventory is available at local retailers. Some people live in an area in which there are several Best Buy locations. By simply driving around and checking these locations you will be able to determine which location will have the best after Christmas sales when it comes to HD LCD TVs. This can help you determine just which store to shop at early in the morning on December 26, 2010. It could also help to save a great amount of money when it comes to making this purchase.

CheapOstay Review - Are They A Reliable Hotel Reservation Company?

To some, CheapOstay is just another one of those online travel agencies with gimmicky names. But are they reliable enough and can they really get cheap hotel rooms as the name claims?

Specifically, CheapOstay is an online hotels' only reservation agency. Though they are a part of a bigger Internet travel agency with offers on plane tickets and car rentals. There are many other online travel companies that provide the same services but CheapOstay is very good at providing better rates than their local competitors but not as well as their regional counterparts.

In a nutshell CheapOstay offers low discount hotel rates for accommodations in the United States and neighboring countries like Canada, South America and the islands off of the east coast of USA.

CheapOstay Review - Are They A Reliable Hotel Reservation Company?

However, they do not seem to provide better rates or offer more choices of accommodations in Asia and Europe. That is because CheapOstay is a company based in the USA. Since they are headquartered there they are much more knowledgeable and specialized about the hotel market in the North and South American region. Though they are worth checking and comparing for room rates for any hotel in the world you are interested in staying at.

Hotel properties all over the world partner with CheapOstay because they will be much more easier to be found on the Internet. After all, 99.9% of all travelers today book their own hotel rooms on the world wide web. By partnering with CheapOstay, hotels have greater chances of having their properties noticed by travelers looking for budget hotels and luxury accommodations from New York to San Francisco.

In return, CheapOstay or any other hotel reservation agency receives a block of discounted room rates at which when a room is booked a part of the discount gets passed onto guests.

Best thing of all though is when hotels have some sort of fire sale where they immediately have to have a certain amount of rooms filled. Hotels will notify CheapOstay about these last minute hotel deals that are not advertised on their own website. Hotels will usually put up last minute hotel deals on CheapOstay because they need to meet some required room quota for the month to avoid losing money.

In the world of advertising and marketing it's usually companies with such cheesy names that actually perform as advertised. In this case CheapOstay does provide cheaper rates for hotels.

Cheap Budget Hotels in NYC - Clean, Good Locations and Under $100 in Manhattan, New York City

Cheap budget hotels in NYC are somewhat difficult to find. After all, one of the most expensive things in Manhattan is space! We all pay a LOT of money to live here and the size of many apartments would likely shock you. According to NYCGO.com, there are an estimated 80,899 hotel rooms in NYC at an average of cost of 8 per night. Of course, many rooms are much more and some killer suites go for upwards of ,000 per night. However, there are also plenty of great budget and cheap hotels in New York, many of which offer interesting rooms, great amenities and free breakfasts.

If you are not from an urban area, then the size of NYC hotel rooms may come as shock to you. Remember there are millions of people in NYC who pay well over ,500 per month to live in one room, where their bed is also their couch, the kitchenette is two feet long and their bathtub, if they have one, may even be in their kitchen. New York City is never about what's inside your home - it's all about what's outside your door!! After all, that is why you are traveling to New York City, right? To see all our famous culture, history, attractions, restaurants and so much more. If you're actually spending a lot of time in a cheap budget hotel in NYC, you're probably doing something wrong.

RV Living Verses Apartment Living

A couple of years ago my wife and I decided we were going to travel the US in a semi-retired state. We kicked out the kids (all over 21), sold our home and purchased an RV. Well live situations change and we didn't get on the road, at least not yet. We ended up staying in the area and taking full time jobs. But we decided at the time to stay in the RV as full-timers.

The purpose of the article is to offer some insight as to the possibilities of using RV's instead of apartments and the advantages of Rving. First a little background for those that are not familiar with the Recreational Vehicle (RV) terms. RVs are classified into several different categories.

Class A are the bus like vehicles you see traveling down the road. These are also called Motorhomes and for good reason. Class A's are the cream of the crop so to speak. They are the most expensive in terms of cost but have the most storage and amenities. I have seen some really nice Class A's and when it comes time for us to upgrade or trade in our current RV we will be looking at the Class A again. However, my tastes start in the 0,000 range, which is a little hard for me to justify.

RV Living Verses Apartment Living

Next are Class B, these are mini motorhomes. They are built on a light to medium truck chassis and can be identified by the truck cab appearance of the vehicle. In my opinion, these will not be suitable for full time use unless you really like small places. Some newer Class Bs are including what are called slides which are sections of the RV that 'slide out' from the body giving you more living space inside. Living space is what you will be looking for in the long run.

After the Class B comes Fifth Wheels. Fifth Wheels are trailers that are pulled by pickup trucks. So to get a fifth wheel you will also need a pickup truck of appropriate size. I would figure at least a ¾ ton pickup. Fifth wheels offer an advantage over Class A and Class B in that once you have the fifth wheel set up on a campsite, the truck is detached and can be used as a means of transportation. With Class A & B RV's you will need to either tow or bring another vehicle with you to get around. Fifth wheels approach the Class A RV in amenities and in some cases have more space. Dollar for dollar you will get more living space in a fifth wheel than a Class A.

However, you do need an expensive tow vehicle (truck) which has to be considered as part of the purchase. The fifth wheel is also part of a class considered as 'Towables'. The next 'towable' is the travel trailer (TT). These are similar to the fifth wheel except in the connections to the tow vehicle. With TT you connect to a hitch that sits near the bumper of the vehicle. Hence, just about any vehicle has the capabilities of towing a TT depending on size and weight of course. Class A, Fifth Wheels and Travel Trailers are the 3 main RV that you will find people living in on a fulltime basis. After the TT comes the camper class. These are light weight RV really not suitable for full time, however, I have met people that are full-timers in pop-ups, truck campers and even tents. The top of the line for the camper class is probably the truck campers.

These are units that slide into the bed of a pickup truck. In general, the max length is no more than 12 feet from front to back and maybe 10 feet side to side. They are very compact. These offer the ultimate in freedom, in that they are quick to setup and take down so that you can move quickly from place to place. However, just like the class A & B, your home is also your transportation, unless you bring another vehicle with you. The last group of towables is the popup or tent trailers. These have a study box frame and as the name implies pop up or lift up to raise the roof over the frame. This class of campers usually have soft sides made of cloth. I have used popups for years as an alternative to hotels while on assignments around the country. Even did some camping in the middle of winter with snow on the ground in a popup. Needless to say, a heater was required and it ran all day and all night. At night it wasn't able to keep up with the cold so the morning was a little fun getting out of bed. It was 20 degrees outside and about 50 inside.

That is a basic overview of the types of RV's available. As mentioned before, Class A, Fifth wheel and Travel Trailers are the units that most people will find suitable for full-time living.

Our experiences with living full-time in an RV.

We currently have a fifth wheel. Ours is from Jayco and is 38 feet long with 3 slides. One slide is in the bedroom, the other two slides are in the living room one on each side of the trailer. After almost 3 years in the RV as full-timers, we both love it. My wife likes to say it takes less than an hour to clean from front to back, floor to ceiling.

Let's start with the financial side of living in a RV. You have the cost of the RV. These are to be treated just like cars. If you buy new, you will take a beating on depreciation. However, like a home, the interest is tax deductible. So the best deal seems to be a unit that is a year or two old and financed. If you want to buy new, figure a discount of about 25-30% off from the list price. Our unit was a 2003 still on the lot in 2005 with the 2006 units being delivered. The sticker price was over ,000. We paid ,000 saving us about 38 percent. Now at the time we did not have a tow vehicle so the dealer delivered the fifth wheel to a near by campground.

Oak Grove in Hatfield, PA is a year round campground. This is important. You want to find a campground that offers year round operations. You don't want to have to move out in the wintertime. A lot of camp grounds close from November to March or early April. When we started there our rent was 5 a month and included water and electric. Our only other expense was propane for heating and hot water. Oak Grove supplied 2- 100 lb propane tanks and they automatically changed the tanks for us. This is really nice, kind of like automatic oil delivery when you own a house. During the warmer months we hardly use any propane, maybe a bottle every other month if that. However, wintertime we will use 3-4 bottles a month due to the heater. Currently propane runs about a bottle. So from the standpoint of renting an apartment to living in an RV expenses are normally cheaper. My daughter pays 0 a month for an apartment near us and we pay on average 5-450.

Other benefits of living in a RV - people! The people you find camping are the most wonderful folks you will ever come across. They are friendly, helpful, young at heart and just plain nice to be around. We have been avid campers since before we were married. I used to sneak down to DE where my wife (girlfriend at the time) and her family were camping and pitch a tent, then make myself part of the family. In the almost 40 years we have been together and camping we have never met anyone that was rude, a thief, or not willing to lend a hand if asked. In fact we have had more offers of help without asking than anytime we lived in a house or apartment.

It's funny, but when I traveled and stayed at hotels, you almost felt like a ghost or leopard or something. Heaven forbid if you said 'hi' to someone in the elevator or hallway. But when camping, everyone waves as you walk by, some will offer drinks or have you sit by the fire and chat for hours. Its like we are all family.

Speaking of fires, what is it about a campfire? To sit down at night around a nice campfire is so relaxing. Nothing needs to be said, just watch the flames and it seems all the stress just floats away. But campfires have another benefit, food. Nothing tastes better than food cooked over an open fire. Try doing that in an apartment.

Rving has another benefit, vacations. If you live in an apartment, you vacation consist of going to a destination, finding a hotel/motel, eating out every meal, and taking enough clothes with you for the length of the vacation. When you live in a RV, your home goes with you. 30-40 minutes to pack the RV, disconnect the utilities and hook up to the truck and you are on the road. When you get to your vacation destination, another 30-40 minutes and you are ready to enjoy the sites. Meals are not a problem, you have a complete kitchen already stocked just like at home, since it is home. On a special diet? No problem, you normal routine is uninterrupted. Clothes get dirty, a lot of RV come with washers and dryers, so you can do your laundry while relaxing in the evenings or before you get started for the day. Rving is usually cheaper too. When you compare the expenses you will find the RV trip is a lot cheaper than hotel/restaurant trip.

These are just a few of the things to consider when you look at living in an apartment verse living in a RV. I hope you have found the information useful.

Cebu City, Philippines - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

A tourist visiting Cebu City for the first time may well be turned off by some of the city sites. The city has several world class resorts, hotels, beaches and dive sites. It also has some areas of the world's most devastating poverty. Cebu City is the capital city of the Cebu Province and it is the second largest city in the Philippines following Manila. I always feel at home in the city and lived in the city before building my home in the rural Cebu Province of Camotes Islands. Cebu City is a mix of the old and new, rich and poor, good and bad and pretty and ugly. There is also the mix of clean and really dirty or filthy. The rule for anyone going to Cebu for the first time is to not make a snap judgment.

My first trip to Cebu City was in February 2004. I went to the Philippines to meet a girl (Judith) now my wife. I flew into the Cebu-Mactan Airport and was met by Judith and one of here sisters. My flight started in Florida and the last leg of the flight was from Hong Kong. The Cebu International airport is just a little outdated, but very functional. Once outside of the airport doors I saw waves of people waiting to meet people coming off of the flight from Hong Kong. The airport was not all that busy when I arrived and I think my plane was the only arriving flight at the time. As people from my flight walk outside of the airport door they were bombarded with shuttle, taxi and V-hire greeters, all trying to get a fare. I met Judith just outside the airport doors. She, her sister and I all jumped into an old Kia Taxi and we were off to my hotel.

The taxi was old and not very well maintained. The Air conditioner didn't work and the window wouldn't go down. Of course that didn't matter as I couldn't close the door because the door latch was broken. So, I got lots of air. The hotel was about a 30 minute drive from the airport. As we traveled the city streets I saw crowded sidewalks made even more crowded by the many sidewalk vendors and street vendors. Some of the roads we traveled were moderately maintained while others were in very poor condition. The roads were crowded with many types of cars, but mostly Kia's and Hyundais. There were also a lot of Jeepneys, a Philippine traditional method of travel. A jeepney looks like a stretched army jeep with a hardtop and a large cargo area used for two benches for passenger seating. Jeepneys are normally painted with several different colors and lots of chrome. Many of the jeepneys are poorly maintained and most have bald tires and the braking systems may be questionable. Also, there were lots of small motorcycles.

Cebu City, Philippines - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

After traveling just a few minutes I decided that the most dangerous vehicle in Cebu was the Jeepney, the Taxi and finally the motorcycle. The jeepney drivers tend to rule the road and stop on either side of the road to pick up or drop off passengers. I saw many jeepneys cut both lanes of traffic off just to drop off people and then saw others swerve quickly to the side of the road cutting off traffic so the driver could jump out of the jeepney to urinate along the side of the road. Taxis are no better, but pose a slightly smaller threat because the vehicles are smaller than a jeepney Motorcycles seem to be a danger only to the motorcycle driver and passengers and anyone walking along side the road or on the sidewalk. Motorcycles make their own traffic lanes on whatever little shoulder the road may have to offer or sometimes drive on the painted divider line as a narrow roadway to make an extra traffic lane for themselves. At other times I saw motorcycles throttle down sidewalks weaving around pedestrians. Yet, the pedestrians seemed little concerned of the carelessness and just continued on their way.

As we continued on our way to the hotel we drove through many different areas of the city. Some areas were very old and the buildings looked as though they were ready for demolition years ago. Many buildings and store fronts are concrete with plywood or corrugated steel sheets added to broken windows and steel bars cover the window or plywood. I can't imagine what would be worth the cost of the steel bars as the buildings were so poor. I was sure the contents within were no better. I noticed several small store fronts with one big open widow covered with chicken wire. These little stores are about the size of a small closet and there are dozen of these little stores on every street. They are called sari-sari stores and sell just a very few items such as canned fish, rice, snacks, cigarettes and so on. Most of these little stores are attached to the front of private houses and are crudely constructed of unpainted plywood and tin roofs. Most of the Sari-sari stores block the sidewalk, forcing people to walk on the road to get around the protruding plywood box. Other Sari-sari stores have a small table or tables along the narrow sidewalks for their rum buying customers and a karaoke machine assist in blocking the sidewalks.

In many of the old areas the sidewalks are filled with vendor's shacks, tents or some other type of hurried shelter to sell goods. The sidewalks belong to the vendors and the pedestrian is left to find his own way around the ugly obstructions. These small vendor shacks on the sidewalks block the store buildings behind and I still wonder why the store owners allow the vendors to block their stores. The old neighborhood streets and sidewalks in most areas are filthy. Trash is all over the streets, chickens are tied to utility poles or street signs as well as dogs. Many of the old homes along the city's commercial streets may or may not have running water and a sewer system. Many people use the streets and sidewalks as their bathroom and even bath on the sidewalks. The infrastructure of the old neighborhoods is almost non-existent. There is poor drainage, poor sewer systems, and electric lines hang low to the ground with hundreds of wires attached carelessly to a single wimpy pole. I often wonder how trucks make it under these wires without hitting the wire. In many cases the bigger trucks do indeed hit the wires and knock out power to large section of the city.

The one thing that stood out for me as we past by all these areas in the taxi was the people all seemed happy. Despite, what I saw as great poverty and terrible living conditions, these people, or least many people were happy. Although, most of the people I saw were rushing down the sidewalks going about their daily routine. I thought these people are doing the same thing as other people do in any major city around the world. Yet, my first visit in Cebu City opened my eyes to the fact that at the very least, the city was poverty stricken or had a large population that lived in poverty.

After about 30 minutes riding in the taxi we came into a much nicer area of the city and there like an oasis in the middle of all the poverty was this beautiful Hotel and a large modern shopping mall next to it, as well as several large modern well maintain high rise buildings. The scene was a stark difference to the old areas of the city. This area could be found in any modern US city and looked very much like a commercial area of a US city. The area is called the Ayala Business Park and the Ayala Mall. This is modern Cebu City and it is everything you would find in any modern city.

Once at the Hotel, the Marriott, I checked into a very nice room and we all went to the dinning room for a pleasant lunch. Soon after that it was just Judith and I as her sister went home. Judith then took me across the park to the Ayala Mall, just a five minute walk and once inside the mall I was amazed. The stores were the same as in the US, Ace Hardware, Levi, MacDonald's and so on. Plus, several Philippine Department stores and many different types of restaurants and coffee shops. All the store clerks and sale people spoke English and most all the Filipinos walking through the stores were speaking English. Others used a mix of English and their native Cebuano. All the store signs are written in English and the restaurant menus are written in English. In many ways I felt as if I just traveled 20 plus hours from Florida to be in a US city.

Although there were many other foreigners in the mall many Filipinos walking by asked where I was from and in general everyone was very friendly to me. While at the mall I bought a few souvenir type things to take home and Judith and I just did a lot of window shopping. I was happy to see the prices of most things in the stores were very cheap compared to the US. At that time one US dollar bought 56.00 pesos. Today it's one dollar to about 44.00 Pesos. Still a good deal, but today I'm careful in my spending. By the middle of the afternoon I was ready for some sleep after my long flight to Cebu. Judith went home and I retired to my hotel room.

The next morning Judith was at the hotel bright and early and we had breakfast at the hotel and then off to see the city and some of the beach resorts. Cebu has wonderful and beautiful resorts and all very affordable. The resorts are all well maintained and modern. The biggest population of customers at the resorts are foreigners and the staff Filipino. I quickly change my opinion of the city from a poverty stricken third world to a modern commercial and tourist city with a few old areas that needed a lot of help.

During my trip to Cebu we went into the old area of Colon. Colon is the oldest street in the country and has several landmarks. However, Colon is a dirty area of very old and poorly maintained buildings. Prostitution is a major problem in the Colon area as is street crime. There are some wonderful markets and great bargains to be found in Colon, but not an area for the new tourist to wander alone. Hotels can be had for a really cheap price in Colon. Some just .00 a night, but these hotels cater to those picking up street girls and both the girls and the rooms are really dirty. Last year Judith and I stayed at two different Colon Hotels. We went into the city for our monthly shopping trip from Camotes Islands. We decided to try the hotels as they are cheap and close to many of the outside markets. I would never stay at either of these hotels again. The best words to describe them is old, filthy, rat infested and full of prostitutes. Both of these hotels seem to cater to single foreign men and any girls the men may find at the Colon bars or on the streets. The area has several little Bikini type bars with Bar Girls (Prostitutes) also called GRO's. Unless you are looking for a prostitute there is little reason to go to Colon after dark and even then one needs to be very careful. This is not intended to say that all of Colon is bad. There are some nice stores and restaurants in Colon. I enjoy shopping in the Colon area, but one needs to use caution in Colon.

During my first visit I saw most all the areas of Cebu City and felt safe at all times. Of course we didn't go into the old parts of the city after dark. Rather we were at the resorts or around Ayala Park and these are all very safe and enjoyable areas.I would recommend Cebu City to anyone that wants to go to a great resort and spend time on a beautiful beach, go diving, take a boat tour of the outer islands and not spend a lot of money. There is just so much to do in Cebu City and so many great things to see. Staying at any of the resorts is very affordable just about .00 per night and some as high as 0.00. Dinner at restaurants is also very cheap. Meals at nice restaurants can cost just .00 to .00 for two people, I had a wonderful time during my first visit. However, I had Judith as my tour guide and as my girlfriend. I'm not sure I would have liked Cebu City as much as I did if Judith wasn't with me during the first trip.

Soon after my first visit to Cebu City I moved from Florida to Cebu City in 2004. By this time Judith and I were engaged to marry and I wanted to live in Camotes Islands. However, we decided to live in the city while looking for land to build a house in Camotes. Camotes Islands are a rural province of Cebu and just two hours from the city by boat. We rented a brand new two bedroom house in the Lahug area of Cebu City. The monthly rent was just 5.00 plus our TV cable for about .00 a month. The house was located on a hillside overlooking the city and close to everything we needed. Lahug is a very nice area and now there are many new housing sub-divisions built in the area. Our monthly budget while living in Lahug was approximately 0.00 and that included the rent, utilities, food, taxi cabs and even lots of dinners at restaurants and entertainment. I assume if we still lived in Lahug the budget would be just a few more dollars a month.

Within just a couple of weeks after moving into the Lahug house I felt as if Cebu was my city and I really enjoyed the city life. The city has many things to offer the foreigner and the city is always trying to attract more foreign retirees. It truly is a foreign (expat) friendly city. The largest group of foreigners in Cebu is Korean then Americans, Australians, British and Japanese. There are no racial tensions or problems in the city that I am aware of and the city is very safe. However, like any major world city there is crime, but using common safeguards and precautions one can have a happy life in Cebu City. Driving in the city is something I have never attempted and I don't think I ever will drive in the city. The taxi cabs can get you almost anywhere in the city for .00 to .00 and that's fine for me.

Shopping in the city is great and there are products from all over the world in Filipino stores. Many food stores stock western brands so you will never get homesick for your favorite foods from home. The outside markets, located all over the city offer great bargains and it's always fun to negotiate prices with the vendors. Cable TV is available in the city and it offers many American shows and news programs. You can go to the movie cinemas and see a new release movie for about .00 and the popcorn is just a few pennies. The city has grown since I moved to the Philippines. There are many new gated housing Sub-Divisions that cater to foreign buyers, new high rise condo buildings and the resorts all continue to attract foreigners. The two major malls in the city, Ayala and SM are both expanding. Many of the roads have been upgraded as well as the infrastructure in many areas. The city is a major draw for tourism and is always attempting to bring in more tourist and more foreign retirees.

Any expat on a monthly pension of about ,000.00 can live like a king in Cebu City. You can live on less than ,000.00 but I think ,000.00 is the right figure if you include saving a little each month for emergencies, trips back home and medical needs. The city has very good hospitals and medical cost are much less in the Philippines. Good dental care at very reasonable rates is also available in the Philippines. Many people go to Cebu for medical or dental vacations. Just remember, if you think you want to move to Cebu City do your homework. Do you want to live in a new country? do you want to be separated from your family and grandchildren?, if you are married how does your wife feel about living in Cebu? If you have young children do you want them to live in a new country and what about their education? Do you have the patience and understanding to learn and live in a new culture? Do you have the money to live a good life in Cebu without the need to find work? Do you have enough money to cover any type of emergency that may require five to ten thousand dollars? Finally, what is your reason for wanting to live in a new country? If you can be honest with yourself and have a positive answer for the above questions, then maybe Cebu City is for you?

Remember too, The Philippine economy is struggling. Filipinos with four and six year college degrees are driving taxi cabs or working as store clerks. Unemployment in the country is through the roof. Poverty is a major issue in the country. For all the beauty of the Philippines Poverty continues to destroy many Filipinos and their futures and creates an ugly face to an otherwise beautiful country. Just this week on November 8, 2007 an 11 year old girl in Manila living with her mother, father and little brother in a shanty town hung herself. The reason left in a note from the little girl was because of the poverty she and her family lived. The father not able to find work for months and the mother working for just .00 a day. The little girl had just the night before asked her father for P200.00 for a school project. The father did not have the money, just under .00. All the girl wanted was to finish school and buy a new bike. A simple dream complicated by severe poverty in a country struggling to overcome political corruption and theft. Please remember, what you may spend in just one day in the Philippines is what a Filipino may have to live on for a month. Poverty does indeed take lives.

I truly love my lifestyle in the Philippines, but it took some time, patience, understanding and a few sacrifices to live in the Philippines. I made several mistakes before coming here and a few since living here. I didn't have enough money when I came here in 2004. I've made a few trips back to Florida to do some contract work and then returned to my beloved Camotes Islands. I'm currently away from home on a teaching contract. However, for me, it's worth the price to have just a few months a year in my paradise called Camotes Islands, Cebu, Philippines. I think anyone looking for a great vacation will enjoy Cebu City. Those looking to retire on a modest pension can live well here, but just be sure living in a new country is right for you. Before making a decision to move here it's wise to come on a vacation first and see the city for yourself. Then you can decide if this is the life you want. Once again, for me this is paradise.
